Dried Meat Lake Camrose County
Previous

Dried Meat Lake, the Blackfoot and Cree tribes lived along the west and east shores.  In the Edberg district, there is a famous Romeo and Juliet type legend on how Dried Meat Lake obtained its name. It is said that a Blackfoot brave fell in love with a Cree maiden. Both tribes forbade the love affair so the couple ran away and lived in a cave on the Eastern hills. They rarely left their cave, and dried their meat in the warm sun just outside the cave. They were discovered by a passing Cree and were punished severely. This incident gave the name Dried Meat Lake to the area and today the legend lives on.  (The following pictures are just a few of the happy time that we spent there)
